Welcome to GnaeX - Now is the only moment!

Welcome to www.gnaex.ch, www.gnägi.ch and www.keanu.ch - in it's new design!

ParentsKidsYeah, looks like you found us at www.gnaex.ch, www.gnägi.ch or www.keanu.ch. But WHAT did you find? You found the homepage of Stephanie and Patrick Gnaegi-Graser, Keanu - Joel and our youngest member of the family: Justin - Yannick. We are "based" in the heart of Europe - Switzerland.

But what the heck does GnaeX mean?

GnaeX (speak: Gnägs) is a near-phonetic way to pronounce Gnaegi (Gnägi). It became my nickname and no one is using my first name anymore. Just call me GnaeX.

What is this site all about?

I hope you will find this site at least a little entertaining or that you can find some information you can use. An important topic on this site are cars. It's of course also a little bit "advertisement" for me and to tell the world what is important to me and what is bothering me. A playground.

JSP/JAVA, JavaScript Frames, Tables, IIS, Tomcat - that was the plan

Before this release I made an "intermediate" release that was based on Apache Tomcat. I made the whole design from scratch, wrote my statistics TAG libs etc. There were NO frames (frames are ugly) and there were NO tables used for the site design - tables were not meant for this! NO more flash-buttons etc. I purely used DIV elements and CSS-Stylesheets to create the design. I didn't use JavaScript, not a single line of code. Code belongs on the server, not on the client. This is a bit against the AJAX / Web 2.0 hype but with a proper CSS design it does look "dynamic" and "web 2.0" without JavaScript.
Sometimes I have the feeling, that some people introduce AJAX functionalities on their sites and AFTERWARDS they try to find out what kind of problem they try to resolve. Don't get me wrong, it can be nice in some situations and I did use it in projects but think before you act!

Well, this super-duper version never got online as I had to change my provider and after that it wasn't possible to find a hosting company that offers the possibility to use JSP pages.

Content Management System (CMS) based on Joomla! - where I ended up

Instead of starting from scratch again I decided to use a modern CMS. I'm pleasantly surprised on how well that worked out. I now use Joomla! and I'm happy with it so far. If offers you a great set of features and modules. It does a lot of the work for me. On the negative side I lost "total control" of the generated HTML code. It does add tons of "tables" and JavaScript. Sometimes you have to give up something to gain another thing.

The future of this site

There will be a "shop" with my stuff that is up for sale, a media gallery, a sitemap etc, etc....
Another major change will be that the whole site will be in German as well. I just wait for the Joomla! 1.5 compatible version of joomfish.

Summary

Go ahead and take a look around. If you have any question, concerns or any other feeback please let me know. Don't hesitate to contact us.
