Yeah, 1999 was indeed a little bit different than all the years before and even after. It was an experience I wouldn't miss! Now I know what stuff I didn't even know that it existed like: DMV, IRS, INS, AAA, SSN, ELC or simply a "burger animal style".

How it began

The company I work for here in Switzerland is a US based company and it was possible to get a temporary working permit for the USA. But shall I realy do this? Sell the car, leave the appartment? What to do with all the insurances, the furniture etc? Say good by to all the friends and leave to a country I've seen only once, during a 2 week vacation? My wife (back then it was my fiancee) quit her job and went with me to visit a language school (ELC). She didn't speak a single word of english before that!

Westwood / Los Angeles CA 90024

We used to life in Los Angeles, CA 90024. To be more precise in Westwood, walking distance to the famous UCLA. It is a nice and safe area of Los Angeles with a lot of cinemas. With a bit luck you meet Bruce Willis, Richard Gere or Julia Roberts when you go shopping. We once "meet" them while we went shopping in Westwood and there was the world premiere of the film "runaway bride". Where else does this happen?
Often, when you see a report on TV where they bring a story about a premiere in Hollywood it is actually in Westwood. But who cares: showbiz - nothing is as it seems.

We miss..

The thing we miss the most are the people we meet (alphabetical order):
Alok, Bahram, Cherryl, Cynthia, Henry, James, Jim, Kwang, Mark, Mihoko, Pam (aka Pamster), Paul, Phil, Sandy, Yuri, Zareh and all the others!
